Our History

Since 1917 Lions have come together for the benefit of the community. Today, we stand with 1.4 million members in 210 countries.

To the world there is an understanding that Lions Club International stands for helping mankind. For the individual the question is much more personal. For each member brings to the club their own unique passion and abilities for the betterment of mankind.

As ordinary people, we do extraordinary things.

What we do

Community Events

Annual Golf Tournament, Main Street Car Show, Trunk or Treat, Holiday Gift Fair, Road Race, Health Education.  

Local Support

CHH Low Vision Center, Christmas Village, Flowers to seniors, Scholarships, St Jude telethon, eye glass and hearing aid assistance, Operation Overflow, Torrington Soup Kitchen, Friendly Hands, Christmas for Children, Local Fire and Police Depts assistance.

State Support

American School for the Deaf, CT Lions Eye Research, Chris radio, Fidelco guide dogs, Low Vision Center and Diabetes Research International: LCIF, LEHP, Children and Youth programs, Disater Relief, Assistance requests, Health programs.

2018Holiday Craft and Gift Fair - November 3rd 10 am - 3 pm Torrington Armory

Featuring a multitude of vendors-  Vendors sign up early for a good spot-Visitors come see what the newest trends are- find some unique gifts something for you or something for a friend-Christmas is right around the corner-, penny auction, picnic style food, kids table,a 50/50 cash raffle (if possible) and much more. Free admission and parking.

Halloween Celebration & Truck Or Treat - October 27th 4 pm - 6 pm Main Street Torrington

In collaboration with the Torrington Lions Club & Torrington Municipal & Teachers Federal Credit Union. The Torrington Parks & Recreation Department will be sponsoring numerous Halloween activities during the Annual Halloween Celebration. The event will include hayrides, contests, music and games provided by a D.J., and plenty of treats for the children to enjoy as they stroll around in their costumes to visit each of the decorated cars. Anyone interested in decorating a vehicle and handing out candy, must register in advance at the Torrington Parks and Recreation Department. Anyone entering a vehicle to participate in the Truck or Treat will be responsible for providing their own candy or treats to hand out. Will be located along Main Street in Torrington. Applications can be found at the Parks and Rec in the Armory. Please submit by October 15th. 

December 2018

  • Christmas for Children - We collect toys at Walmart and then deliver them to the Torrington Fire Department for them to distribute to the children in Torrington. So watch for our yellow shirts playing Santas elves in Walmart!. It is usually the first week in December.

  • House Decorating Contest - Dec 12- In conjunction with The Torrington Park and Rec Dept. Displays should be lit from 6-9 pm  Categories- Commercial  and Residential Christmas Display, Residential: decorated doorway, nativity and Christmas.  Contact the Park and Rec for the application by Dec 5th to enter.

Salvation Army bellringers are out there. Please support them!

June 2nd-Touch a Truck Loews parking lot 9-1 pm

June 9th- 3rd Annual- Town wide tag sale-sign up at CityWideTagSale.com-proceeds benefit the city firework fund

August 17th-our annual Golf Tournament -Greenwoods Country Club  call Norm Nejaime  860 482 3321 for info

August 5th-We support the  Tour of Litchfield Hills through Litchfield County-ride your bike for a wonderful day out and a great cause-stop at our refreshment break stand on the Norfolk road

September 1,2,and 3rd-Join us at the Goshen Fair -enjoy a rib eye sandwich and a delicious ear of locally grown corn on the cob

We are always doing Eye Screenings for school age children. Just to name a few of our other events. Other dates to be announced. Keep checking.

We are able to co-sponsor a lo of our events  with the Torrington Park and Rec. Dept. They have info for them at 860-489-2274.
